The common perception about a romance novel is that it will have a very attractive cover and a real hero that will be chasing half naked women who are being troubled by a wicked person. It is of course, wrong to judge a book by its cover and if the author does not fall into the usual trap of succumbing to writing a stereotype novel, a romance novel should in fact contain a lot more than details about lurid sex.

Conflict And Challenges

The essence of a romance novel is a conflict or even a challenge that requires that either the hero or the heroine overcomes, and the journey through it all is laced with fun experiences and many thrilling moments.

It is only after having written a number of romance novels that an author will be able to craft a story that has everything in it such as action, great character, suspense and mystery and a little bit of sex thrown in as well. There are many romance novels that contain lurid details of sex and passion that are meant to elicit a certain kind of response from the reader. It is far better to get the reader to identify closely with the trials and tribulations of the hero and heroine as they go from one sub-plot to the other, rather than elicit base reactions from the reader.

The better romance novels go beyond innuendo and sex and they have good and interesting plots that make the reader closely identify with the main characters and such novels are a lot better than those that simply concentrate on narrating about hot romance between the protagonists.

It is a good idea to check out the synopsis of a romance novel before choosing it and you need to also look for a plot that excites the senses, a good challenge and great characters – all of which will provide you with hours of pleasurable reading.

There is a lot of interesting stuff contained in a romance book that can often make it hard to set it down till the final word has been read, and if you are lucky perhaps you will be able to lay your hands on one such book. The best part about reading a good romance novel is that the reader is always unsure about what is going to happen next, and so the reader cannot wait till he or she reaches the climax and finds out the ‘truth’.
